40th breeding bull auction in Germany

The 40th breeding bull auction took place in Verden, Germany on 15-16 February this year and the event was organised by the farmers organisation MASTERRIND. The event was well-attended as this year marked an anniversary. The auction was attended by all breeders and guests from Germany, as well as guests from Latvia, Estonia, Poland, Canada, Africa and other countries.

Also we took this wonderful opportunity to attend the auction. The assessment of breeding bulls and the awarding of the best specimen took place on the first day of the auction. A traditional meal was served at the auction arena after finishing the assessment in the evening. Afterwards the action of the awarded and premium quality heifers took place. The farm KOLUMBI also purchased an excellent-quality and awarded pure-bred in-calf heifer of the French Limousin line.

The parade of new breeders was held at the beginning of the second auction day where the new farmers exhibited their excellent and trained beef cattle. The auction of breeding bulls was held throughout the rest of the day. In total, 162 bulls were auctioned — 46 breeding bulls of the Charolais breed, 53 bulls of the Limousine breed, 34 Angus bulls and also Blonde d’Aquitaine, Simmental, Galloway, and Hereford bulls. The average price per breeding bull is EUR 3,183.00.

Charolais bulls were auctioned most actively and most rapidly. The most expensive Charolais bull was auctioned at the price of EUR 6,500.00 and it was the awarded back-up champion bull owned by one of the best Charolais breeders in Germany — Rainer Moormann. Among Limousin breeding bulls the highest bid was made for the breeding bull owned by Gernot Lingens from Twistringen as the bull was auctioned at the price of EUR 7,500.00. Overall both days spent at the auction organised by MASTERRIND have resulted in gaining remarkable experience. It is an educational event where one may concurrently observe such high-quality and excellent breeding bulls.

Thank you MASTERRIND for the opportunity to become part of the most important event of the year in the area of beef cattle breeding. /Dace Meldere/
