Forty-first breeding bull auction in Germany

In a special Valentine’s Day atmosphere, the forty-first breeding bull auction took place in Verden, Germany, from 14 February to 15 February. The representatives and employees of our farm also attended this annual auction in order to purchase a pure-bred Aberdeen Angus bull for improving and perfectioning our herd. The evaluation of breeding bulls and the awarding of the best bulls, as usual, took place on the first day of the event. After the evaluation, everybody gathered together in the large arena for the traditional wine and dine evening. Everybody enjoyed a wonderful Valentine’s Day atmosphere and friendly conversations among farmers. The night auction of heifers was arranged after the dinner, auctioning excellent and high-quality breeding heifers with the average sales price of the auction 4,096 EUR.

MR. VERDEN AND MISS VERDEN

The second day was started by the parade of the new-generation farmers and the selection of Mr. and Miss Verden. Our Aberdeen Angus bull also made it to the finals, but this year’s winner of the Mr. Verden selection was Charolais bull, whereas the wonderful Galloway heifer was able to claim the Miss Verden title. Mr. Verden 2020 achieved a sales price of 7,500 EUR at the later auction — the highest price for the Charolais breed!

BREEDING BULL AUCTION

This year, 162 bulls entered the ring out of which 153 found a new owner. The auction of the Angus bulls was very fast and the entire selection of 31 bulls was sold. The average sales price — 2,877 EUR. The bull bid by our farm cost 5,000 EUR and was the best one among the Angus breed bulls, therefore, we are extremely proud that we won the auction. In total, 48 Charolais bulls were auctioned at the average price of 2,985 EUR, 51 Limousin bulls at the average price of 3,351 EUR, whereas the top price of 8,500 EUR among all participating breeds was achieved by a Limousin bull.

We also gained a wonderful experience by visiting the bull auction organised by MASTERRIND where it was possible to look at various excellent breed specimens at once.

There were also visitors from the film team of Land.Schafft.Werte, producing a documentary with the aspiration to view the value chain of meat products and animal husbandry from all different perspectives. The main character of the documentary was one of the best bulls at the breeding farm Moormann in Herbergen. At the event, the main hostess even led Charolais bull Deluxe into the show ring.
